Benefits of yoga
YOGA IS A PROVEN SCIENTIFIC SYSTEM OF PHYSICAL AND MENTAL PRACTICES THAT ORIGINATED IN INDIA MORE THAN 5,000 YEARS AGO.
Its most popular expression in the West is Hatha Yoga, a gentle limbering system of stretching movements designed to have specific physical benefits. The movements, in combination with breathing exercises and meditation, increase the flow of blood to the body’s connective tissue, causing internal organs to be toned and rejuvenated; the epidermal, digestive, lymphatic, cardiovascular, and pulmonary systems to be purified of toxins and waste matter; the nervous and endocrine systems to be balanced; and brain cells nourished and stimulated. The end result gives a person increased mental clarity, emotional stability, and a greater sense of overall well‐being. Everyone practicing yoga gains some level of benefit.
